5.9 Physical Learning Environment

brain ergonomics

  • This module is about how environmental factors impact your brain’s performance. Everything we see, hear, smell, taste and touch will either have a positive or negative biochemical impact on our brain’s performance.
  • Brain ergonomics is a driver that is particularly important for people studying further. The environment in which you learn should be humanized to optimize your brain’s performance. This driver is not measured in the NAP™ Advanced+ or the Student Performer brain profiles, as adults constantly move between different environments and it is therefore too difficult to measure the general impact the environment has on their brain’s performance. It is safe to say that in general the environments in which people work and live are not as humanized as it could be. Brain ergonomics as a driver replaces sleep in the NAP™ Toolbox for children studying further, as school and the home in which children live are more static than that of adults. Although sleep is crucial to a child’s brain performance, brain ergonomics is prioritized over sleep as different children of different ages need to sleep longer and is more difficult to measure in a questionnaire.
  • Familiarize yourself with pages ? in your manual.
  • This module consists of 1 video.
  • Total video duration for this module: 25 minutes.
  • Golden Rule: The brain functions much easier in natural environments where we are exposed to natural lighting, air, pastel colors, natural sounds, tastes and textures. In order to optimize your brain performance and maintain wellness, it is essential to humanize the environments in which we live, learn and work.

    • Reflection:
    • How humanized is the environments in which you live, learn and work?
    • List actions you can take to humanize those environments you frequently visit .
